Tuesday, November 4, 2025 is the last day to vote in the Special Election which will determine two seats on the five seat Georgia Public Service Commission (https://psc.ga.gov/). Your ballot may also include referenda or municipal elections. Verify that you are registered to vote and your polling location and download a sample ballot at https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/.

The qualifying period for the next two seats on the Public Service Commission is March 2 - 6, 2026. If you want the Georgia Green Party nomination, contact us and prepare to attend the 2026 Nominating Convention on February 21, 2026.

For your reference, the Georgia Green Party Platform mentions the Public Service Commission five times:

Plank 5 of the Catastrophic Climate Crisis Chapter: Greens on the Public Service Commission and the state Assembly will collaborate to shut down the construction of all new nuclear power facilities in Georgia, working to ensure that the new reactors at Vogtle are never fueled and irradiated. Greens will quickly phase out reliance on and proceed urgently to decommission the two nuclear reactors at Plant Hatch and the four at Plant Vogtle. We will hold the Southern Company responsible for the safe storage of spent nuclear material from these facilities, giving particular attention to the threat of flooding in the Altamaha and Savannah River basins, and the threat such flooding would pose to the secure storage of these irradiated materials.

Plank 5 of the Economic Development Chapter: The Public Service Commission can require that new investments by power utilities be made in energy conservation and new renewable generating capacity, especially photo- voltaic and wind. Plugging the leaks in our energy budget saves our money for local spending and local job creation.

Plank 1 of the Electric Re-Regulation Chapter: Use the rate setting and regulatory powers of the Public Service Commission to encourage investment in demand side efficiency and conservation improvements over investments in new generating capacity.

Plank 1 of the Public Utilities Chapter: Prevent monopolistic structures and practices. If a truly competitive model with many producers and no barriers to entry to the market is not feasible due to the nature of the service, then the monopolistic practice must be strictly regulated. Such regulation must be enforced by a Public Service Commission that is responsive to the needs of all consumers and small businesses. It must also give top priority to protecting the environment.

Plank 3 of the Public Utilities Chapter: Support the development of safe, cleaner energy, especially solar-derived energy. We support the immediate phase-out of inefficient and unsafe nuclear and coal plants. The Public Service Commission should use its rate approving authority to force the closure of coal and nuclear power plants.
